You know you're getting older when you start to find more joy in homeware than you ever thought possible. In my 20s, I can't honestly say I gave the quality of my bedding much, if any, thought.

But that changed when I found the Pensford Stripe bedding from Dunelm's The Edited Life collection. Scouring through reviews, I was struck by the sheer number of customers raving about the "high quality" feel of the fabric.

Dunelm markets the Pensford Stripe Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set as a "contemporary blend of comfort and style to redefine your bedroom decor". Made entirely of cotton, Dunelm boasts that this set delivers a "sumptuously soft touch, ensuring a restful night's sleep."

"The modern striped design adds a touch of sophistication, creating a sleek and timeless aesthetic for your sleep space. Each set includes matching pillowcase(s) with a secure button closure, ensuring your duvet stays in place for an uninterrupted night of relaxation," the Dunelm listing describes.

Available in two colourways - olive green or terracotta - I chose the olive green to complement our bedroom's decor.

The ethos behind the Edited Life collection resonated with me - I'm not in the market for flimsy, fleeting trends that will look dated after a few months. Instead, I'm drawn to simple, classic designs crafted from durable, high-quality materials that stand the test of time.

According to the Dunelm website, "The Edited Life introduces a new era of thoughtfulness in the home, with an understated collection of pieces chosen for their simple beauty, quality craftsmanship and innate usefulness that will last beyond any trend. Having it all is no longer the goal; having enough, and it being just right, is."

I must say, I couldn't agree more. In these financially challenging times, selecting durable items that stand the test of time is not only a more sustainable choice for our environment but also for our bank balances.

This is what the Pensford Stripe bedding appears to promise. Although a kingsize set comes at a price of £46, there are undoubtedly cheaper options elsewhere, but finding ones manufactured from such a robust material could prove a challenge.

While I bought this bedding merely a month ago and cannot assert its durability, it has maintained its quality through two rounds of washing and tumble-drying so far. Its fabric exudes a weighty, yet breathable quality, which leads me to believe it will be long-lasting.

Although I appreciate the quality and texture of the bedding, it must be highlighted that the actual colour of the item is a bit lighter than depicted in the pictures it leans more towards sage green than olive. This difference is notably apparent as the olive green fitted sheet I ordered contrasts sharply due to its much darker shade.

I must admit, since purchasing this bedding, I've experienced some of the best nights of sleep - despite its weight, it's incredibly breathable and perfect for staying cool during warmer weather. That's why I'm planning to buy another set in a different colour - terracotta - when payday comes around.

The Pensford Stripe bedding can be found at Dunelm, with prices starting from £32 for a single bed size, going up to £52 for a super kingsize. Alternatively, Amazon has this Catherine Lansfield Brushed Cotton set in either green or beige stripes, currently discounted by £10, making it just £25.
