There is more than one way to banish weeds in your garden. If you haven't ever considered a gas-powered burner, it's a really practical solution.

Keeping a garden under control can be a really exacting task - one that requires a whole heap of equipment, from mowers to saws and trimmers. One tool that you might not realise could help you hugely, if you have a lot of weeds to deal with, is a gas-powered burner.

This sort of safely-controlled giant blowtorch can burn through weeds and char their roots in seconds, making it a really great alternative to pungent and potentially toxic pesticides and weed killers. And, reading the description on Amazon for the Green Haven Gas Powered Weed Burner on offer for £19.99 which includes four gas canisters, it's a really versatile piece of equipment that is not just useful for weeds.

The burner can also be ideal for clearing away patches of ice or snow on a driveway, starting a charcoal burner without matches, and more besides. It allows you to fine-tune the flame output too, and is also billed as a "green alternative to chemical-based weed treatments". It's also not a space hogger, at 80cm in length, and with a weight of 3.7 kilograms, it's lighter to carry around than lugging a heavy piece of machinery. There are also no cords to get tangled in.

You can tell it's a useful gadget, too, thanks to the more than 2,500 customer reviews which have been left on Amazon. One of these explained how well it's worked for them: "I am obsessed with this, it's great, my new garden was overgrown with long dead brambles, how satisfying to send them up in flames, great for getting and keeping the bonfire lit". Another wrote: "Most burners don’t come with any gas so buying the extra gas puts the price right up. Spotted this one and thought it was ideal as it comes with the gas so you're ready to go and you don’t have to worry about what gas bottle you need to get to fit the burner."

A third customer said: "I have only used it a couple of times and it works well and does the job." Out of the 2,634 global ratings, only 5% have given the product a two-star rating, with some of its critics saying they had to bend down a lot when using it. The burner has a built-in spark igniter for easy lighting up, and some people struggled with getting the igniter to work.

If you prefer, of course, you could opt for a strimmer to keep things under control, although this will struggle to get past the top of most weeds - the Bosch EasyGrassCut 26 is a great option at £31.45. B&Q has a pretty comparable gas burner in the form of the Hardys Weed Burner Wand, at £19.99, meanwhile, in case you prefer to shop there.

Amazon has the advantage of fast delivery, though, so you can be crisping up and vaporising weeds before you know it.
