Strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and blueberries often become mouldy quickly as berries have a very high water content which attracts bacteria to them, which can lead to them spoiling fast.

Many summer berries, including the ever-popular blueberries are known to only last a few days before spoiling.

But luckily, you can extend their shelf life by learning the best way to store them.

To prolong the shelf life of your blueberries, you might want to consider freezing them, according to The Cross Legacy.

Berries can remain fresh for up to a year when stored in a freezer-safe bag and vacuum sealing them can further extend their lifespan to two to three years.

Before freezing, wash and dry the blueberries thoroughly to clean them, and then, spread the completely dry berries in a single layer on a tray and place it in the freezer.

This allows each berry to freeze individually. Once frozen, transfer the berries to a resealable bag or vacuum seal them for storage.

To begin washing blueberries, fill a large bowl with water, add them all in, and stir in 60ml of five percent distilled white vinegar.

Set a timer for two minutes and let the blueberries soak in the vinegar solution.

After two minutes, drain the blueberries in a colander or use a salad spinner if you don't have a colander.

Give them a quick rinse, making sure to remove any remaining debris like leaves or stems.

Once rinsed, spread the blueberries in a single layer on a clean cloth towel. You can use a large Turkish towel that provides ample drying space on the counter.

Let them dry for several hours until they are completely dry and you are ready to use your preferred storage method according to your consumption.
