Make a fried egg without a frying pan in 3 minutes with ‘fast and easy’ cooking method

There is an easy way to cook a fried egg "perfect every time" and you do not even need a frying pan to do it.

There is nothing better than cooking a hearty breakfast at the weekend, and there is an easy way to cook the perfect fried egg without even having to fry it. 

It may sound easy to make a fried egg but many people overestimate the temperature, which can result in a burned egg stuck to the pan and a rubbery undercooked yolk. 

However, ChihYu Chiang, a cook and founder of I Heart Umami has shared that the way to there is an effortless and healthier way to cook up a fried egg, and you do not even need a frying pan to do it. 

She said: “Making fried egg in air fryer is a fast and easy alternative to stovetop cooking. Crispy fried eggs with creamy yokes are ready in minutes, with minimal cleanup. 

“Eggs in air fryer use a fraction of the oil, which saves on fat and calories for a healthy protein addition to any meal.”

Cooking an egg in the air fryer allows it to cook more evenly, which will allow the egg to come out with a richer and creamier texture. 

ChihYu added: “These air-fried eggs couldn’t be simpler, and they are perfect every time: crispy on the outside, with a creamy, runny yoke inside.” 

How to cook a fried egg in the air fryer 

You will need: 

  • One large egg
  • Oil spray (or olive oil or butter) 
  • A shallow and heatproof non-stick tray 
  • Spatula 
  • Oven mitts

Method:

All you need to do is spray the tray with oil (or grease with butter) then place the empty tray in the air fryer at 200C and preheat it for five minutes.

Crack the egg into a small bowl or mug and once the time is up, carefully pour the egg into the very hot tray. Place the tray in the air fryer at 180C and cook for a few minutes depending on how you like your fried egg. 

ChihYu said: “Air fry for three minutes for a sunny side up or over-easy egg. If you prefer a medium egg yolk, add one minute to the cooking time.” 

Once the time is up, take out the tray from the air fryer, use a spatula to remove the egg from the tray, and your creamy egg is now ready to enjoy.
