Everyone thinks their mum's roasties are the best, but one woman is convinced her mother has the ultimate 'controversial' trick up her sleeve.

The humble roast potato is often hailed as the jewel of a Sunday roast, with many striving for that perfect combination of a crunchy exterior and a soft, fluffy centre. Achieving the ideal roast potato can be somewhat tricky, but one savvy mum has divulged her 'controversial' method for crafting the 'crispiest and fluffiest' spuds you'll ever taste.

On TikTok, user Kate showcased her 73 year old mother Jane's unconventional approach - simply leaving the skin on the potatoes. The video was aptly titled: "My 73 year old mum;'s controversial take on roast potatoes" and further advised viewers: "You've just gotta trust Jane on the skin on (plus it saves having to peel them!)."

Kate boasts that her mum whips up "the best roast potatoes in the world", describing them as the "crispiest, fluffiest roast potatoes ever".

Jane's method involves cutting Maris Piper potatoes into chunks with the skins left intact. She says, "I quite like the skins because they become all crispy and they're the best part."

Rather than timing her potatoes when boiling, Jane cooks them until they're "a little soft" but "not too soft". For an extra crunch, she tosses in some flour and gives them a good shake in the pan to roughen the edges.

The mother first pours vegetable oil into a pan and places it in the oven to heat up. Once hot, she removes it and adds the potatoes, ensuring they are fully coated in the oil before returning them to the high-temperature oven.

Although she mentions turning the potatoes, she does not specify when this is done. When questioned about seasoning, Jane reveals that she heavily salts the water in which the potatoes are boiled, adding more salt at the end.

Kate's followers were thrilled with the tip, with another 'Jane' commenting: "Jane here. Can confirm. Mum Jane's roast potato is THE only way. I've been making them this way for years. It shall henceforth be 'The Jane Method'."

Another follower chimed in: "Maris Pipers always only potatoes I buy," while another exclaimed: "Looks absolutely fantastic! Will definitely try the recipe. Thanks for sharing! " A fourth fan eagerly added: "I want to come over for a roast immediately,".
