A TikTok chef has revealed a foolproof method for creating the "perfect" soft boiled eggs with delightfully jammy centres, and it's taking social media by storm.

User AliHooke, who boasts of once preparing "over a hundred" soft boiled eggs daily in a restaurant kitchen, has decided to spill the beans on her culinary secret. The magic ingredient? An ice bath.

She instructs: "You're going to start with a pot of boiling water. You're not putting it in cold water because you have less control when you put it in cold water. Boiling water is the same temp, so it will be the same across the board for timing.

"Now you're going to gently put your eggs in. You don't want them to crack, but if they do crack, don't worry, you can still eat it but they might leak a lot of the egg out.

"Set a timer for exactly seven minutes and while that's cooking, prepare your ice bath. The ice bath is a crucial step, you cannot miss it.

@alihooke How to make perfect soft boiled eggs Bring a pot of water to a ripping boil Gently lay your eggs in the water Boil for 7 minutes Whack each egg with a spoon and Place in an ice bath when timer is done After a few minutes you can easily peel them. If you want SUPER runny you can go as low as 6 and a half minutes and you can go toward 8minutes for more medium eggs #softboiledegg #cookingtips #howto ♬ original sound - Ali

"When the timer goes off you're going to crack each egg with a spoon as you put them into the water. This allows the water to get its way in between the egg and the shell, making it so easy to peel."

Demonstrating the technique, she adds: "You only have to wait a minute or two before you can start peeling them. And look how perfect they are. They're so good. If these are a little bit too soft for you, you can do seven and a half minutes."

The egg boiling tip has gone viral, amassing over 38,000 likes and a staggering 660,000 views. Enthusiastic fans have been flooding the comments section with praise.

One grateful viewer commented: "Thank you! Finally made soft boiled eggs to my satisfaction. So good." While another quipped: "Thanks for shell cracking tip!".

Other commenters shared their culinary plans inspired by the hack. A user remarked: "I'm so early! These made me want ramen lol." Ali responded with a tip of his own: "This is exactly how I make my ramen eggs. Just marinate them after."
