Homemade brownies look and taste impressive when done right, but complicated recipes can be hard to follow - and expensive to make.

One home baker took to the online forum, Reddit, to share the easiest four-ingredient recipe they swear by for perfect results.

After stumbling across a recipe image online, the forum user named gorcbor19 realised they had all the ingredients needed at home already, so decided to make the brownies.

They wrote: "The consistency doesn't look like the picture, they're more gooey than that, but they are super tasty. I was surprised as this is the first "dessert" I've made since shifting my diet to plant-based late last year. I'll definitely be making them again!"

Unlike most brownies, the recipe relies on cocoa powder alone for the chocolatey flavour and uses the soft texture of mashed sweet potato to make them melt in the mouth.

Sharing their surprise over the results, the Reddit baker claimed that they were "shocked at how good they turned out" for such a "simple" recipe.

While some forum users were concerned over the flavour of the sweet potato seeping through, the brownie fan noted that it wasn't the case.

They said: "My kids ate them and hate sweet potatoes. I didn’t follow the recipe once, used too much sweet potato and I could taste it."

Some people who commented on the thread suggested adding almond flour to "firm up" the brownies, but the original poster of the recipe claimed that they enjoyed how moist they were, and proclaimed they were "really good, just like real brownies".

Sweet potato brownie recipe

Ingredients

Three cups cooked sweet potato, mashed

Three-quarter cup of cocoa powder

1.5 cups nut butter

Three-quarter cup maple syrup

Method

Making the brownies couldn't be easier as the ingredients can be added to one bowl at the same time, according to the Reddit post.

While a food processor is ideal, mashing everything together until smooth and somewhat runny is simple if you cook the sweet potato until very soft.

Either add all four ingredients to a food processor and blend or add the mashed potato, nut butter and maple syrup to a bowl and mix.

Sieve in the cocoa powder and stir through until combined to thicken the mixture. Take a small square baking tray or loaf pan and pour in the mixture.

Cook in a preheated oven for 12-15 minutes at 175C and remove while still a little gooey inside to ensure a soft texture.
