Poached eggs are a favourite weekend dish, whether that's for breakfast, brunch or even select dinner dishes. But, if you want the "perfect" poached egg in record time, one TikTok creator and cooking enthusiast recommends ditching the pans for another method.

Emily Scott, who shares her breakfast recipes and ideas to TikTok on the page @whatiateforbreakfast, says her method is an easy way to ensure you get the best poached egg. However, she says there is one important step you must not miss out.

The recipe creator says you do not need to use the hob or even a pan to create her poached eggs. Instead, she makes hers in the microwave and says they are the "perfect quick breakfast".

She begins by greasing a small microwave-safe dish and then cracking a large egg into it.

@whatiateforbreakfast Poached eggs in the microwave in less than 1 minute! Perfect for a quick breakfast ??????. Method: ?????? Grease as many microwave-safe ramekins or small dishes as required with a little oil or butter. ?????? Crack an egg into each dish, then boil the kettle & pour in enough freshly boiled water so that the egg is completely submerged. ?????? Carefully prick the egg yolk & white with a cocktail stick/skewer/sharp knife (this helps to prevent the chance of the egg exploding, so don't skip this step!) ?????? Microwave for 40-45 seconds, keeping a close eye on the egg/s. Depending on the power of your microwave (mine is 900W) and how many eggs you are cooking, you may need to cook for a few seconds less or longer. If they are undercooked, try adding an extra 5 or 10 seconds at a time until the whites are cooked but yolk still runny. ?????? Once the egg/s are cooked to your liking, carefully remove from the dish with a spoon & place on some kitchen paper to absorb any extra water. ?????? Emily says you can use multiple small ramekins if you want to cook more than one egg at a time.

Next, boil the kettle and pour in enough freshly boiled water until the egg is completely submerged. This is where her top tip comes in.

In her TikTok video, Emily explained: "Carefully prick the egg and white with a cocktail stick, skewer or sharp knife. This helps to prevent the chance of the egg exploding so don't skip this step."

She recommends cooking your egg for 40 to 45 seconds, keeping a close eye on the egg at all times. However, Emily does note that the length of cooking time may vary depending on your microwave.

She said: "Depending on the power of your microwave and how many eggs you are cooking, you may need to cook for a few seconds less or longer. If they are undercooked, try adding an extra five or 10 seconds at a time until the whites are cooked but the yolk is still runny."

Once the eggs look as though they are cooked to your liking it's time to remove them from the microwave. You should place the eggs on a piece of kitchen towel to absorb any excess water.
