Toyota has teased the release of the new Supra 2019 ahead of the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The teaser image released by Toyota was simply captioned with “The Legend Returns.”
Ahead of the launch the car manufacturer said: “At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, a modern racing concept will signal Toyota’s commitment to bringing its most iconic sports car back to the market.”
It is not, however, clear whether or not a standard showroom spec consumer version of the car will debut alongside the racing concept version.
The new Supra, which has been developed with BMW, had been teased throughout 2017.
It has been confirmed to AutoExpress that the car will wear Gazoo Racing nameplates instead of Toyota badges.
Gazoo Racing is the name of the brand’s motorsport division.
Because the car has been developed with BMW it is expected that the new BMW Z4 has inspired the Supra or vice versa.
Both cars share the same platform and will use the current carbon fibre architecture from the current i3, i8 and 7 Series.
Unlike the Z4, which will be made available as a convertible, the Supra will be a fixed-roof coupe.
The time will share a lot of the same DNA as the BMW Z4
Supra is set to be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 340bhp.
This powertrain is expected to be mated to an eight-speed torque convert automatic transmission.
The launch of this new model marks the first time the Supra namesake has been used since 2002, when production of the previous generation ceased.
The car’s design and specs will be revealed on March 6ht from 9:45am at the Geneva Motor Show.
