WATCH: Honda Civic Type R flips over in SHOCK Nurburgring accident
THE driver of a Honda Civic Type R hot hatchback managed to flip their car while attempting a corner at speed at the Nurburgring in Germany.
Nurburgring is a tough track for any budding motorist and their car to take on, something with a Honda Civic Type R driver learnt the hard way.
The driver of the 2014 Honda Civic Type R attempted a corner at speed while at the Nurburgring in Germany but ended up flipping the car onto its roof.
What happened when the driver took the corner is something that can be described as lift-off oversteer, also known as snap oversteer.
Lift-off oversteer is a form of oversteer that occurs when the driver is cornering and they close off the throttle, causing declaration, which causes the vertical land on the tyres to shift from the rear to the front.
In the case of the Nurburgring driver, because he was riding the kerb, this shift in power caused it to flip.
According to the video description, uploaded by Auto Addiction, the car was a complete write-off after the incident.
Thankfully however, both the driver and passenger did not sustain major injuries.
Honda Civic Type R flips over at the Nurburgring during a lap
The incident happened just weeks after the brand-new Honda Civc Type R claimed the fastest front-wheel drive lap at the Nurburgring.
On April 3 2017, a development car lapped the world-famous circuit in a blistering seven minutes and 43.8 seconds.
This was an increase of even seconds on the model’s predecessors previous time.
Honda promise the latest Type R will be the ‘most-rewarding’ drive in the hot hatchback segment.
It is powered by a refined version of the 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine which produced 320PS and 400NM of torque.
Production of the new car begins in summer 2017 at Honda’s manufacturing plant in Swindon.
