Range Rover Sport SVR is an off-road all-terrain beast
RANGE Rover's top of the line Sport SVR model could just be the best luxury off-roader in the world.
The Range Rover Sport SVR has been tested on multiple terrain to test the off-roader's acceleration
Land Rover's fastest vehicle has been given a new 550bhp V8 engine resulting in a car that can take you anywhere, fast.
The off-road specialists have combined the mighty engine with advanced traction technology to provide grip for all that power.
Many will be endeared to the 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds on standard tarmac, but it's how the power is put into use on the tricker terrains, where this car really shines.
It can churn through mud from 0-60 in just 6.5 seconds and even achieve a sprint time of 11.3 on snow, thanks to its 4WD technology and tailored driving modes.
The Terrain Response 2 technology has five driving modes drivers can switch between depending on terrain conditions: General Driving, Dynamic, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl.
Driver Darren Jones, Stability Applications Leader, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover Sport SVR is famed for its on-road performance but this hasn’t been achieved at the expense of customary Land Rover capability.
"Our Terrain Response 2 technology takes the stress out of driving in all conditions."
The new Sport SVR was tested on rock, gravel, mud, grass, snow and tarmac
Terrain, mode and 0-60mph times:
Asphalt
Mode:Dynamic
0-60mph:4.7 seconds
Grass
Mode: Grass, Gravel and Snow
0-60mph: 5.5 seconds
Gravel
Mode: Grass, Gravel and Snow
0-60mph: 5.3 seconds
The SVR can impressively achieve 0-60mph time of 5.5 seconds on grass and sand
Snow
Mode: Grass, Gravel and Snow
0-60mph: 11.3 seconds
Mud
Mode: Mud and Ruts
0-60mph: 6.5 seconds
Sand
Mode: Sand
0-60mph: 5.5 seconds
A driving mode called Rock Crawl lowers acceleration intensity to provide more contorl
The SVR has a top speed of 162mph and produces 680nm of Torque from its V8 and uses an 8-speed transmission.
The Sport SVR has been put through its paces on a range of terrains to discover how effective the new driver systems are.
One system that differentiates from some off-roaders is the Rock Crawl mode which provides softer acceleration to mitigate sudden movements and in theory providing more control.
The air suspension also lifts the car higher to ensure maximum ground clearance.
Range Rover has always been know as the stylish arm of the Land Rover operation and the Sport SVR epitomises that ideology more than any other car.
It has the standard Range Rover Sport body but has some slight tweaks, badges and adjustments to distinguish it from the standard.
