Racing legend John Surtees is a true knight of the road
WITH the New Year Honours List looming large, here on the motoring page think it’s high time the superbly talented John Surtees was knighted.
Now 79, Britain’s oldest surviving Formula One champion, remains the only person to have won the motorcycle world championship (in 1956) and the Formula One title (in 1964).
He was also the first man to dominate the Isle of Man TT races, from 1958 to 1960.
His motorsport achievements are nothing short of phenomenal and unlikely ever to be matched. Thankfully an online campaign is already under way.
