A motoring expert has shared how to easily get out of a car in an emergency when the doors are jammed or locked.

Master Driver regularly posts short videos to her TikTok channel in which she highlights various features that are found in almost all modern cars to help drivers stay comfortable and safe whilst on the move.

In a popular video, Master Driver has shared how drivers can escape from their vehicle via the boot thanks to a button found in almost all cars.

She advised: "When you're stuck in your car and can't get out [of the doors], getting out of the car is very simple. Put down the rear seats first and climb into the trunk [boot].

"There is a small black mechanism on the trunk door panel [bootlid]. This is your life-saving switch. You can open the trunk with just one click."

Whilst it may seem farfetched, it is important that all drivers know the quickest and easiest way to escape from their car if the doors are inaccessible or jammed shut.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by folding the rear seats flat, which can usually be done via a pull handle or button on the top or side of the seat.

Once the seat is folded and the driver has climbed into the boot, they should be able to find a small lever that forces open the bootlid, allowing drivers to get out of their car.

Later in the video, Master Driver also shared a tip that can help drivers stay safe when travelling during the longer nights experienced in autumn.

She added: "Do you see this little button? Press it down.

"This way, lights [headlights] from behind won't be dazzling when driving at night."

Almost all rear view mirrors feature a small tab at the bottom of the unit that allows drivers to dim the reflector when travelling at night.

This can be particularly useful when getting behind the wheel at night, stopping drivers behind from being a distraction or, if the road user has their bright lights on, dazzling the driver.

Some of the latest models now have an auto-dimming feature, which uses sensors to detect bright lights in otherwise dark conditions to adjust the reflection accordingly.
