Retirement: Grand reasons to move house
AT a time when you might expect downsizers to be moving into small properties, many are opting for new-build family homes with room to look after their grandchildren.
Richard and Judith Jackson moved from a five-bedroom house to a three-bedroom home
That was the motivation behind Richard and Judith Jackson's move from a five-bedroom detached Edwardian house to a nearby detached threebedroom home.
The couple look after their four grandchildren every Tuesday and Friday and have moved to Cane Hill Park in Coulsdon, Surrey, part of the £5.2billion regeneration of neighbouring Croydon.
Richard, 67, says: "Our home is perfectly designed for when we look after our granddaughters, with an open-plan lounge and dining area that leads directly onto our garden.
"Our first home was new so we know what a difference it can make to energy efficiency, providing us with lower running costs and a warmer living space."
Judith, 66, adds: "Our move was also driven by us wanting a new lifestyle, by freeing up capital, and ensuring we have a good investment for our future."
Cane Hill Park has three to five-bedroom homes in a parkland setting a twominute walk from Coulsdon South train station, with connections to London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. The M25 and M23 are also within easy reach.
Three-bedroom homes are available from £584,995 with more development phases to come. Call 0844 854 9938 or visit dwh.co.uk for details.
