House prices broken down to cheapest areas in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London

The Express has put together a list of the cheapest areas for those looking to buy a home in the UK's biggest cities.

With many potential first-time buyers struggling to enter onto the property ladder, the Express has put together a list of the cheapest areas for those looking to buy a home in the UK's biggest cities.

Birmingham

Aston is the cheapest place to buy a home in Birmingham.

Homes in the B6 postcode area sold for an average of £149,416 each in the 12 months to the end of May.

Winson Green is the next cheapest place in the city to buy a home.

Houses sold for £159,296 each on average in the B18 postcode area.

That’s followed by B19 (Lozells) with an average home sold for £160,904, B10 (Small Heath) with an average home sold for £167,693 and B11 (Sparkhill) with an average home sold for £177,651.

The five cheapest postcodes are:

B6 (Aston): £149,416
B18 (Winson Green): £159,296
B7 (Nechells): £159,433 (nine sales recorded)
B19 (Lozells): £160,904
B10 (Small Heath): £167,693

London

Thamesmead is the cheapest place to buy a home in London.

Homes in the SE28 postcode area sold for an average of £337,402 each in the 12 months to the end of May.

That’s less than any postcode area in the city with at least 20 sales over the last year.

Belvedere is the next cheapest place in London to buy a home.

Houses sold for £341,070 each on average in the DA17 postcode area.

That’s followed by RM15 (South Ockendon) with an average home sold for £343,204, DA1 (Dartford) with an average home sold for £353,090 and DA8 (Erith) with an average home sold for £354,36.

The five cheapest postcodes are:

Manchester

Bardsley is the cheapest place to buy a home in Greater Manchester.

Homes in the OL8 postcode area sold for an average of £151,220 each in the 12 months to the end of May.

That’s less than any postcode area in the region with at least 20 sales over the last year.

Little Hulton is the next cheapest place in the region to buy a home.

Houses sold for £156,399 each on average in the M38 postcode area.

That’s followed by OL1 (Chadderton) with an average home sold for £161,270, BL4 (Bolton) with an average home sold for £168,992 and BL3 (Bolton) with an average home sold for £171,422

The five cheapest postcodes are:

Leeds

Barkerend is the cheapest place to buy a home in Leeds.

Homes in the BD3 postcode area sold for an average of £101,703 each in the 12 months to the end of May.

That’s less than any postcode area in the city with at least 20 sales over the last year.

Bierley is the next cheapest place in the city to buy a home.

Houses sold for £135,236 each on average in the BD4 postcode area.

That’s followed by LS2 (Leeds City Centre) with an average home sold for £142,397, LS11 (Beeston) with an average home sold for £147,980 and LS9 (Burmantofts) with an average home sold for £148,974.

The five cheapest postcodes are:
