Broadchurch coming back: 8.3 million for the finale
ITV crime drama Broadchurch pulled in 8.3 million viewers for the finale of its second series – and stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman are returning for a third set of episodes.
Joe Miller was found not guilty of murder
Monday night’s climax saw Joe Miller found not guilty of 11-year-old Danny Latimer’s murder – but driven out of the Dorset seaside resort by those who still believe he did it.
And it sparked an unexpected uproar from Northern viewers, when he was banished to Sheffield.
Alex Ffrees tweeted: “Miffed that baddie from Broadchurch was sent into exile in the worst place ITV could think of – Sheffield.”
Another viewer, Ian Kirk, added: “Sheffi ld. So that is where they send child killers? Not helping the North/South divide, eh Broadchurch? Not a good ending.”
Meanwhile, Tennant, who played detective Alec Hardy, brushed off criticism of unrealistic court scenes in the second series, saying: “We’re a victim of our success. The first series was such an extraordinary thing. We never allow lightning to strike twice in this country.”
Broadchurch creator Chris Chib nall said he was delighted to be writing a third series.
“This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time,” he said.
