STAR WARS is getting another series of films from Game of Thrones’ creators, which will be separate to Rian Johnson’s trilogy and the Skywalker saga.

Lucasfilm are not messing around.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is released later this year, followed by Episode IX in 2019, while an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie and Johnson’s new trilogy are in working progress.
You would have thought that would be enough to be getting on with, but now Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has announced another separate series of Star Wars films. Are they aiming to match Marvel with three movies a year?
This time they’ll be helmed by David Benioff and DB Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones.

The pair will be writing and producing the new series of Star Wars films. You read that write – not a trilogy, but a series. Just how long will it be?
In a statement on StarWars.com, Kennedy said: “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today.
“Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
Benioff and Weiss said: “In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since.”

Is Kathleen Kennedy planning three movies a year like Marvel Studios?
They added: “We are honoured by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
Release dates for this new series of Star Wars films are yet to be set.
