STAR WARS 8 The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has teased the opening crawl, revealing one word and his struggles in writing the whole text.

Apart from the spin-offs, no Star Wars movie would be the same without its opening crawl of text to introduce the next episode.
At Disney D23 over the weekend Episode VIII: The Last Jedi director Johnson revealed one word from the upcoming yellow scrolling text, which he previously confirmed would be included.
Speaking with the LA Times, he said: “Decimated.”
Hardly the sign that everything will go rosy in The Last Jedi, the director – known for dark sci-fi thriller Looper – also spoken about the pressure he felt when writing the opening crawl.

Johnson said: “I just did it. I just started writing the draft. I wrote something, and it was terrible.
“And then I was watching one of the behind-the-scenes things and Lucas said, ‘It’s like writing a haiku.’ … I realised as I was refining it what he meant.
“We didn’t finish the opening crawl and totally lock it until a few weeks ago actually.
“Because you’re like, ‘Do we need this word, do we need that word, what if we shift.’”

The director added: “It’s like a poem, there’s very little room for error in trying to get it just right. Which is awesome, it’s really fun.”
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
