Over the years many actors have portrayed the titanic WW2 Prime Minister at different stages in his life and this year movie fans are treated to not one but two movies.
But now it's Oldman's turn in Darkest Hour, a film that's set for release just in time for the next Oscars season and it looks like the actor will be some tough competiton for the Best Actor crown.
The 59-year-old star is well known for being something of a chameleon when it comes to Hollywood roles, this time looking unregonisible in his Churchill fat suit as the first trailer arrives.

While Cox's Churchill took place in the run up to D-Day, Darkest Hour focuses on May 1940, just after Winston became the new Prime Minister in a time when he needed to decide whether to make peace with Nazi Germany or fight on.
The official synopsis reads: “Within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (BAFTA-Award® winner Gary Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation.
“As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a sceptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history."

However before Churchill is released there's Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk to look forward to next week, set during the same time of the War.
Darkest Hour is released in UK cinemas on January 12, 2018.
