STAR WARS droid R2-D2 from the original film trilogy has sold at auction for a whopping sum.

He’s one of the most iconic robots in film history and has now sold to a private owner in a charity auction.
R2-D2, complied from parts used during the filming of the original Star Wars trilogy, has sold for $2.76 million (£2.12 million), according to the Associated Press.
The 43-inch prop sold at the Profiles in History auction house in California, which specialises in Hollywood memorabilia.
R2-D2, played by the late Kenny Baker, was the most expensive Star Wars prop auctioned on Wednesday.

The droid sold alongside Luke Skywalker’s blue lightsaber, which went for $450,000 (£347,000).
Also Darth Vader’s helmet from the original movie managed to go for $96,000 (£74,000).
Meanwhile the personal property of late Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds, will be auctioned on September 23.
Carrie’s lot highlights include her life size Princess Leia statue in an original vintage British Phone Booth, as well as her personalised director’s chair from the set of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Meanwhile Debbie owned Julie Garland’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, which are also up for sale.
Both mother and daughter sadly passed away within 24 hours of each other in December last year, while R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker died last August.
