Daniel Craig asked whether there could be a 'gay James Bond'

Daniel Craig was at the Venice International Film Festival yesterday for the premiere of his new movie Queer, which is expected to receive awards buzz at the 2025 Oscars.

Luca Guadagnino’s new drama based on William S Burroughs’ novel is set in the 1940s and follows an older man’s infatuation with a younger one, while exiled in Mexico City.

This is the second major gay role Craig has played in his post-James Bond career after Benoit Blanc in the three Knives Out murder mysteries.

During the Queer press conference, the 56-year-old couldn’t be bothered to answer a 007-related question that received a large sigh from those in attendance.

A journalist asked Craig: “Do you think there could be a gay James Bond?” The 007 star simply rolled his eyes and said: “I mean…please!”

Director Guadagnino answered instead saying: “Guys, let’s be an adult in the room for a second. There is no way around the fact that nobody would ever know James Bond's desires, period. The important thing is that he does his missions properly.”

The filmmaker certainly has a point given Craig’s 007 hinted at having explored a wider sexuality when captured by Javier Bardem’s Silva in Skyfall.
