Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy in The Revenant
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominations for this year's Golden Globes. British hopes are high.
Actors Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid revealed the nominations for honors for the top television and film awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a hot favourite to bag his third Golden Globe, after wins in 2005 for The Aviator and 2014 for The Wolf of Wall Street. But he has never won and Oscar, despite five previous nominations.
DiCaprio's gritty, blood-splattered role in The Revenant has already created a firestorm of media furore after the studio was forced to issue a statement over reports that DiCaprio was raped by a grizzly bear in the film.
Surely, nothing can top that? Unfortunately a British man, dressed as a woman, stands firmly in his way.
Eddie Redmayne's stunning turn in The Danish Girl is the most talked about role of the cinema year and could win him a second consecutive Oscar, destroying DiCaprio's hopes for a sixth time.
