Director Matthew Vaughn makes a bold stab at shaking and stirring up the spy genre with Kingsman: The Secret Service, an irreverent, outlandish and violent comic book escapade which veers between inspired nonsense and irritating silliness.
Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, Colin Firth plays an absurdly posh spy, Harry Hart, who inducts Eggsy (Taron Egerton), from the wrong side of the tracks, into his covert agency.
The My Fair Lady dynamic is novel and fun and there is some visceral action but a ridiculous plot involving Samuel L Jackson’s lisping villain wears thin.
