Tron: Legacy review and trailer
AS hard as I tried to enjoy Tron: Legacy I kept wondering how much longer I would be trapped in the computer world on screen.
A very belated sequel to the 1982 cult sci-fi, it is set almost entirely within the “digital grid” of a computer into which Jeff Bridges’ games designer, Kevin, was sucked years previously.
Now Sam (a bland Garrett Hedlund) joins him there after discovering his father’s underground lair and twiddling a few dials.
Not only does he come face to face with pa – a white-robed hippy who appears to have been stranded in Goa rather than cyber-space – but also his pa’s younger doppelganger, Clu, who has enslaved the digital universe and is also played by Bridges (de-aged courtesy of some rather cartoony effects).
Frankly, none of it makes sense – much mumbo jumbo is spouted about a digital frontier “reshaping the human condition”, whatever that means - and it’s not much fun or even very exciting, taking a rather po-faced approach to such nonsense.
Yet it certainly looks impressive with some cutting-edge 3D visuals and children may love it.
