Elvis Presley movie: One Direction’s Harry Styles is surprise FRONTRUNNER to play The King
ONE DIRECTION star Harry Styles has the best odds to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic.
Earlier this week the five frontrunners to play The King of Rock and Roll were revealed. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harry Styles, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Austin Butler have all reportedly screen-tested for Elvis. And now it seems One Direction singer Harry Styles is most likely to bag the role. Bookmakers Bovada have the 25-year-old at 7-5, while Teller is right behind on 5-2.
Joint third are Ansel Elgort and Austin Butler on 9-2, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has already played John Lennon, is 6-1.
Despite being the only rock star turned actor in the running, Styles may be a surprise frontrunner considering how little he looks like Elvis.
While fans have been pointing out how similar Teller’s features are to The King.
The proposed film is Exile on Main Street, set in 1972 when Jagger was 30-year-old and living in tax exile with the band in France.
The Rolling Stones recorded their double album Exile on Main Street there, while half the band were inundated on drugs.
Keith Richards reportedly had thousands of pounds of heroin delivered to his villa where they stayed.
At the time, a Hollywood source said: “He's about 10 years too young but make-up and special effects can sort that out."
The movie hasn’t been greenlit yet and he’s already three years older, so perhaps Styles will play Jagger yet.
The proposed movie is based on music journalist Robert Greenfield's book called Exile On Main Street: A Season of Hell With The Rolling Stones.
The band’s bassist, Bill Wyman, claimed in his autobiography Stone Alone that he, Jagger and drummer Charlie Watts stayed sober.
Meanwhile, Richards and guitarist Mick Taylor were constantly getting high. Nevertheless, the album reached No 1 in both the UK and US charts.
