The highly influential star, who is best-known for his single Hallelujah, is just one of many legendary musicians to have passed away this year.
Many were shocked and heartbroken by the news of his death, with stars taking to social media to pay tribute to the iconic sixties-songwriter.
Actor Russell Crowe tweeted: "Dear Leonard Cohen, thanks for the quiet nights, the reflection, the perspective, the wry smiles and the truth #towerofsong."

Leonard's death was confirmed on his official Facebook page by his record label Sony Music Canada.
A statement shared on the social media site read: "It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.
"We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date.
"The family requests privacy during their time of grief."
He is survived by his two children Adam and Lorca.
