BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire, 46, reveals she's been diagnosed with breast cancer
BBC broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire has revealed that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer, at the age of 46.
The presenter took to Twitter this evening to share the shock news with her 49.7k Twitter followers.
She also revealed that she was going to be undergoing a mastectomy in the next few weeks.
She wrote: "Hi, have been diagnosed with breast cancer & am having a mastectomy in a few wks. Family, friends, work & NHS staff are being brilliant 1/2."
"Will be doing the programme as much as possible during treatment in the months ahead 2/2," Victoria added.
Twitter users were quick to reply to the journalist's post, sending her their well wishes.
One posted: "Very best of luck from me Victoria" as another added: "My condolences: I hope that you are back to full health as soon as possible."
A different person shared: "All the best with your recovery."
Many others also described Victoria as a "fighter".
Victoria hopes to continue presenting her daily BBC2 news programme for as long as she can while undergoing treatment.
She currently presents the Victoria Derbyshire show, with her occasionally also hosting Newsnight.
The star worked for Radio 5 Live for 16 years, before leaving in late 2014.
A spokesman for the BBC said: "We wish Victoria a full & speedy recovery & look forward to having her back full time as soon as possible."
