Beatles concert snaps make £225,000
Previously unseen pictures of THE BEATLES' first ever American concert have made more than £225,000 at an auction in New York.
The Fab Four were introduced to the U.S. with a slot on The Ed Sullivan Show in February, 1964 and two days later they played their first American live gig at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, D.C.
Photographer Mike Mitchell captured the historic event on film when he was just 18, and nearly fifty of his pictures were sold individually at Christie's auction house in New York on Wednesday (20Jul11).
The whole collection smashed an initial estimate of £62,500 to bring in more than £225,000.
