Saoirse Ronan was 'too young' for Harry Potter role as she missed out on two big movies

The Irish actress shot to fame as Briony in the 2007 film Atonement and has since been nominated for four Academy Awards, but she's missed out on some huge roles.

Saoirse Ronan left fans in shock as she disclosed that she had missed out on two significant Hollywood film roles.

The Irish actress, who rose to stardom with her role as the sharp-witted Briony in 2007's Atonement, was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday where she discussed her latest film The Outrun, which has been receiving glowing reviews.

However, she also shared about the major roles she didn't land over the years, revealing to the surprised studio audience that she could have starred in last year's massive summer hit Barbie.

Saoirse collaborated with Barbie director Greta Gerwig on the critically acclaimed films Lady Bird and Little Women, leading Jimmy to question if she would be joining forces with the filmmaker for the rumoured remake of The Chronicles of Narnia.

"There isn't known truth to it. She hasn't asked me yet. She's writing it," she clarified.

"We have a kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, 'So I'll be in this, just so you know.' And she takes some time to think about it and goes, 'Okay.' She honestly hasn't asked me about Narnia. I think she's so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now," Saoirse further added.

However, she did disclose that she was originally slated to appear alongside Kate McKinnon in the billion-dollar Barbie film, but her role was cut due to scheduling issues. "But I was supposed to be in Barbie. I was going to be a weird Barbie, obviously," she chuckled, reports the Mirror.

"Yeah, it was gonna be me and Kate being weird for 20 minutes," Saoirse revealed, explaining that she lost out on the part due to filming The Outrun.

She further surprised the studio audience by revealing that her Little Women co-star, Timothee Chalamet, was also initially cast in Barbie as a "weird Ken."

The Oscar-nominated actress was questioned by Jimmy about other roles she had missed, and she admitted she had been passed over for the role of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series. "I think the one that stayed with me over the years... I had gone up for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter," Saoirse expressed regretfully.

The role eventually went to Evanna Lynch, who played the eccentric Hogwarts student in four films, but Saoirse remained disappointed about missing out.

"I got to read out a saying that was going to be in Harry Potter and was the coolest thing ever. It was the Irish character. They got everyone Irish in. Half of Ireland come and auditioned,' she joked, before adding that she didn't get the part because she was "too young".
