Revenge of the Nerds star Donald Gibb has died following a prolonged battle with health problems, his son has confirmed. The beloved actor was 71 years old. Best known for his iconic portrayal of Ogre in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise, Gibb also appeared in other hugely popular Hollywood films, including Bloodsport, in which he shared the screen with Jean-Claude Van Damme, and TV shows like Seinfeld. His son, Travis, revealed that the star passed away surrounded by loved ones at his home in Texas.

It is understood his death was not unexpected, with the actor having struggled with health difficulties for some considerable time. His son described how the actor loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans wholeheartedly. Speaking to TMZ, Travis requested prayers and privacy during this painful period, adding that his father will "be deeply missed and forever remembered".

Following the announcement of his passing, devoted fans took to social media to pay their respects. One user on X shared a clip from Bloodsport and wrote: "Donald Gibb (Ray Jackson from Bloodsport) passed away at 71. RIP.

Another tribute read: "As a diehard fan and author of 'Jackson? You Look Like a Jackson,' all I can say is 'any time, any place, anywhere. If you ever need me, I'll be there.' Rest in peace, Donald Gibb aka Ray Jackson." A third wrote: "Sad news about Donald Gibb, best known as 'Ogre' in Revenge of the Nerds. A familiar face from a very specific era of film-rest in peace, and condolences to his family, friends, and fan." And a fourth said: "RIP Donald Gibb aka The Ogre! #nerds."

Owing to his imposing stature, Donald was predominantly cast as bouncers and heavies throughout his career. Alongside Revenge of the Nerds and Bloodsport, he appeared in films such as Any Which Way You Can in 1980.

The following year he featured in Stripes, and in 1982 he secured a role in Conan the Barbarian.

On the small screen, Donald took on a variety of parts, frequently portraying criminals and prisoners. He appeared in several episodes of Weird Science and Step by Step, while also featuring in Stand By Your Man.

He secured a leading role in 1st and Ten alongside OJ Simpson. Memorable supporting appearances followed on hugely popular programmes including Knight Rider, Seinfeld, Cheers, The X-Files and The A-Team.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and his children.
