BBC viewers were left heartbroken when DS Florence Cassell bid farewell to the Island of Saint Marie for the final time back in 2022. Josephine Jobert played the popular police officer on the hit TV series Death in Paradise but has crushed fans' hopes of a possible return.

The 37-year-old actress first joined the show in 2015 at the beginning of its fourth season and continued until 2022. However, she officially bowed out at the start of the year alongside her co-star.

She was part of some huge storylines during her time - including the dramatic romance with onscreen lover Detective Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little). In a social media Q and A, she shut down a potential comeback in the future.

Josephine penned during an Instagram Q&A, saying: "I had a great time and I made the best out of it. I have amazing memories and met amazing people too. But it's time to move on."

However, the actress was quick to acknowledge the outpour of love she had received and admitted that she was "very touched" by people’s pleas. Josephine added: "I think I can safely say no [I won't be back]. I've already left and come back many times and I've definitely done my time on the show.

She added: "But I completely understand why the question is asked. In fact, I am very touched that the public wants to continue following Florence."

Josephine was quizzed if she missed filming on the stunning Caribbean island where it set, but shared: "Not really.”

The show was her first English-language role. She started out back in 2015 and was part of the detective series up until season 11. Although she took a short break in 2019 for both personal and professional reasons.

The star's latest comments come just days after she revealed she’d be keen to take part in the Death in Paradise spin-off show, Beyond Paradise.

After replying to a fan saying "Yes, why not?" when they put the question forward to her on the platform.

The drama is set for a huge shake-up as it welcomes Don Gilet to take the lead role when it airs again next year.

Don, 57, has already begun filming on the small island Guadeloupe and said: "Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.

"This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated.

Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!”

The star's acting career dates back to the late 90s and has been linked to huge shows including Eastenders.
