Giovanni Pernice has issued an update on his life following his axe from BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. The Italian dancer took to his social media account to share that he was making a return to the UK after being inundated with messages of concern from fans.

Speaking to the camera, while walking around the sunny streets of Rome, the 34-year-old professional dancer posted a clip to Instagram, where he said: "Hello everyone, just a quick update with life in Rome. This week is the week of the first live show, which is very exciting.

"I did read all your messages at the weekend and I'm very grateful to all of you. Here it is going very well. I received a lot of messages as well saying 'Giovanni, why did you leave the UK?'"

He offered an explanation for his whereabouts, as he continued: "I haven't left the UK at all. In actual fact, I'm back on Sunday for the dance class and obviously there's dance classes in October, November, December as well, and then back on tour in January until July.

"But, for now, very excited for Ballando. The dance is going very very well." Signing off, Gio puckered his lips as he said: "Sending lots of love, I love you all."

Some of his 1.1million followers shared their support as they noted his absence from this year's professional line up on Strictly Come Dancing.

One user penned: "Miss you so much on Strictly ... not the same without you!! But good luck in Rome!"

Another added: "I couldn't even watch Strictly as you weren't there. Good luck. You're passionate about what you do." A third said: "Missing you on UK TV, stay strong."

"You are so very much missed. Strictly without you is very dull," someone else added.

Giovanni is currently showcasing his moves on Italy's version of the show, Ballando con le Stelle, where he's paired up with Bianca Guaccero. The show follows Strictly's concept, pairing celebrities with professional dancers each year.

The professional dancer left Strictly after his celebrity partner from last year, Amanda Abbington, made complaints about his behaviour during training. The BBC launched an investigation into accusations levelled against him during his time on the show.
