BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood has shared insights into her life with her new husband, Steve Randall, whom she married in 2023.

The 62-year-old Scottish weather presenter follows a unique routine, waking up early to provide the latest weather updates on BBC Breakfast.

However, her police officer husband has seamlessly adapted to her "night owl" schedule.

"I get up at 2.45am," Carol revealed to The Sunday Times, adding: "Steve, who's a police officer, gets up too and makes me a cup of tea. I get to Broadcasting House, which is the headquarters of BBC in London, by 4am.

Carol further explained that she also travels to the BBC in Salford Quays, Manchester once a week. "I check the studios are working, then I start building what we call my show."

The couple's shared activities aren't limited to early morning wake-ups, as the presenter disclosed that they enjoy long walks together.

Carol, who is also an author, recently released her latest book, Once Upon a Time in Venice. She manages to find time to write despite her busy career and early starts, as she only works four days a week.

"I write on Fridays and at the weekends," she shared as she went on to explain how she embarked on this new career when approached by a publishing agent, with the support of her husband Steve.

The pair used to discuss ideas on their long walks, but she explained the couple had to abandon their cherished pastime of walking together when Carol was hit by a car during lockdown, resulting in severe injuries to her knee, thumb, and elbow.

While appearing on the How To Be 60 podcast with Loose Women host Kaye Adams, the star opened up about her ordeal: "I can still obviously walk but I used to run and cycle a lot.

"I was on my bike when I got hit, so that's made me nervous about cycling so now I power walk everywhere."

Carol and Steve exchanged vows during the festive season last year, taking some well-deserved time off for their intimate ceremony in Buckinghamshire.

This came just over a year after the couple announced their engagement. Following their private nuptials, the presenter expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support on social media.
