An emotional Good Morning Britain star announced she is leaving the ITV programme.

Taking to X on Friday (July 12), Jacqui Smith revealed it was her last day working for the show as she shared a selfie alongside Iain Dale. Smith and Dale, who have co-hosted a weekly political and current affairs podcast, entitled For The Many, since 2017, regularly appear on GMB as political pundits.

But Smith is now bidding farewell to the morning programme as she is returning to politics. The 61-year-old wrote: "My last @GMB with @IainDale today. With @kategarraway and @adilray. Jacqui expressed the love she has for her colleagues, adding a heart eye emoji at the end. But she also revealed it was tinged with sadness, rounding off the post with a crying emoji.

The broadcaster's comments were flooded with supportive messages from her followers who wished her well on the future. One wrote: "Best of luck luck Jacqui. Enjoyed the podcasts with you both!"

Another penned: "Listened to your last For the Many the other day..talk about emotional … congrats on being elevated to higher things ..you will be great."

A third added: "Great send off for Jacqui Smith. Yes you had ten years in Government, & didn't avoid mentioning failures as with the successes. You'll bring this to your new time in the Lords, + the valuable 3 years Chairing the two East End Hospital groups, + the tv & podcasts. Kindest wishes."

Smith was an MP for Redditch from 1997 to 2010 and became the first woman to hold the position of Home Secretary under Gordon Brown, serving from 2007 to 2009.

In the 2010 General Election, Smith lost her seat as MP for Redditch to Karen Lumley of the Conservative Party. After turning her back on politics, she began working as a consultant for KPMG and as an adviser to Sarina Russo.

She made regular appearances on This Week and Question Time, and was also a weekly commentator on Sky News' Press Preview

Smith previously co-hosted a weekly show on talk radio station LBC alongside former Conservative cabinet minister David Mellor.

She officially returned to politics in July 2024, following Labour's win in the General Election. New Prime Minister Keir Starmer appointed Smith a Minister of State in the Department for Education.
