Sir Ian McKellen issues diagnosis update as he breaks silence after horror stage fall

Lord of the Rings actor Ian McKellen was rushed to hospital after he fell off stage at the Noel Coward Theatre in London.

Sir Ian McKellen has issued an update on social media after he fell off stage during a West End performance. The acclaimed actor, 85, is currently playing John Falstaff in a production at the Noel Coward Theatre.

He wrote on X: "I want to thank everyone for their kind messages and support. Since the accident, during a performance of Player Kings last night, my injuries have been diagnosed and treated by a series of experts, specialists and nurses working for the National Health Service.

"To them, of course, I am hugely indebted. They have assured me that my recovery will be complete and speedy and I am looking forward to returning to work. Thanks to @dobbsCLD."

The actor reportedly "cried out in pain" after he fell during Monday's show. He had been performing a fight scene when he apparently lost his footing.

Tuesday's run of the show Player Kings has been postponed as Ian recovers in hospital. The play's run is scheduled to end on Saturday, before it goes on tour to Bristol, Norwich and Newcastle.

Despite falling from the stage during Monday's show, he has been assured of a "speedy and full recovery" and is expected to appear in Wednesday's matinee performance of the production.

Ian McKellen is famed for his roles in The Lord of the Rings and in the X-Men franchise. He has also recieved 12 Olivier nominations during his successful stage career and won six for his roles in The Alchemist, Bent, Wild Honey, Pillars Of The Community, Richard III and Ian McKellen On Stage.

Many of his 3.9 million followers have flooded the comments section with warm wishes as he recovers in hospital. One person replied: "Relieved to hear you're anticipating a good recovery and wishing you the absolute speediest of them!"

A second fan also commented: "hope you get a speedy recovery, you're a kind soul that everyone loves!" A third person typed: "Excellent news! Well done to all those medical professionals. I hope you're soon fully fit and back at work. Rest up and take care."

A fourth follower also wrote: "Thank goodness for our National Health Service and the wonderful people that work tirelessly within it. Wishing you a quick and full recovery and can’t wait to hear about you treading the boards again soon!"
