Dr Michael Mosley, a fan favourite on shows like Secrets of Your Big Shop and The One Show, has gone missing on an island in Greece.

However, barely five weeks before his Grecian getaway, the 67-year-old was plastered on screens across the country as he joined Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones.

The health expert joined his fellow BBC stars on the Morning Live show on April 29, to discuss his 5:2 diet method, the benefits of intermittent fasting and his new book The Fast 800 Treats Recipe Book.

He got personal about the topic, revealing how he transformed his own life when he started fasting for two days a week over a decade ago.

Dr Mosley explained that after discovering he was overweight, as well as suffering from hypertension, high blood sugar and being diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, he was told to “take medication and get on with it”.

Instead, he tried the 5:2 diet and not only lost nine kilograms but also restored his blood sugar and has kept it down ever since.

There were other benefits too, as Dr Mosley explained: “My blood cholesterol went down, my blood fats went down and my blood pressure went down. So all of this contributed to turning my life around.”

On Thursday, an appeal shared in a local Facebook group caused an online frenzy as it revealed the TV doctor had gone missing on the small Greek island of Symi, with a population of less than 3,000 people.

The post noted, according to The Mirror, that Michael was last seen heading back from St Nick’s, a picturesque beach on the island’s North side, just after lunchtime but never made it home.

It continued: “His friends are concerned as it is 6 hours since they last saw him. His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar face for many British people.”

Just a week before his disappearance, Michael’s latest BBC Sounds series, Just One Thing, released its latest episode.

The 14-minute long podcast delved into the health effects of volunteering with Dr Edith Chen from Northwestern University who had been studying the impact of helping others and found it can be beneficial to help lower chronic inflammation, cholesterol and even help weight loss.
