BBC Radio 2's Vernon Kay inundated with support as he issues 'emotional' job update

Presenter Vernon Kay has been flooded with support from fans after he shared an "emotional" post on social media.

Vernon Kay has been supported by fans as he shared an "emotional" update online.

The TV presenter, 50, is set to host a special outside broadcast on BBC Radio 2 alongside Jeremy Vine to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Thursday (June 6) marks 80 years since allied forces entered France and kickstarted the end of World War Two.

Vernon will be presenting live from the Normandy coast, where he will speak to families of soldiers involved in the invasion which led to the defeat of Nazi Germany.

On Instagram, the former This Morning host shared a photo of himself standing on Gold Beach as he prepared to mark the historic event.

He added the caption: "Swordbeach #dday80 An emotional start to the morning interviewing DDay Veterans for @bbcradio2 tomorrow live from Gold beach."

Fans of the broadcaster flooded the comments with supportive messages as they branded him "the best man for the job." One wrote: "Well Done Vernon, you'll do a great job! Respect and Thanks to all those veterans who made it home and Respect and Thanks to those poor souls who didn't x."

A second agreed: "You’re going to be amazing on your show tomorrow Vernon. I felt your emotion when you were talking to Gary Davies earlier… You are the best man for the job tomorrow and if you do get a little emotional, so be it. You’re showing true compassion which not many can do. We’re all rooting for you and all the extraordinary veterans."

A third posted: "Vernon, you are absolutely the right person for tomorrow's show. Your emotions are always so real and heartfelt. You had me tearing up when you chatted to Gary earlier! As usual I'll be sneakily listening at work (college) with one earbud in. Thank you for being you."

Echoing this, someone else shared: "All the best for tomorrow Vernon..if you do get emotional then so be it ..you're the best man for the job...loads of love to you and all the veterans ..xx."

Also to commemorate D-Day, Vernon will host a Sunday Night Is Music Night concert (8-10pm, Sunday June 9), recorded at Portsmouth Guildhall.

The concert will feature the combined musical forces of the BBC Concert Orchestra and the BBC Big Band, as well as special guests who will perform other music of that era.

Speaking about the show, Vernon said: "It’s important we never forget and always honour the bravery and sacrifices made by those brave soldiers 80 years ago on D-Day, so I’m incredibly proud to be broadcasting my show from Normandy and presenting a commemorative Sunday Night Is Music Night concert on Radio 2 this weekend."
