Kate Garraway had her Instagram followers all saying the same thing as she marked a milestone almost five months after the heartbreaking loss of her husband Derek Draper, who died at the age of 56 in January, after battling extreme complications from Covid.

The mum-of-two shared a video of her packed car before heading off on a trip to Cornwall with her family. The Good Morning Britain presenter explained the holiday was “bittersweet” for her, as the vehicle would have been perfect for Derek to travel in with her, due to the Volvo having “plenty of room for a hoist and wheelchair in the back”.

Despite her mixed emotions, Kate shared her excitement for the trip, after not having owned a car since her previous Volvo was stolen back in 2020. Determined to honour the occasion, the TV star asked fans for their help in naming her new set of wheels.

Kate penned: “We haven’t had a car since Vickie Volvo was stolen and Percy Peugeot had to go back but thanks to some amazing friends who’ve helped me loan a brand new @volvocaruk C90 - I absolutely love it!!!!! Not an advert just a passion!

“Feels like old times with hands on an @volvocars wheel, although bitter sweet as this would have been the perfect car to carry Derek in and out of with plenty of room for a hoist and wheelchair in the back.

“But I know he would approve and it’s come just in time to take my mum and Dad away on our annual Cornwall trip with ALL the Garraways!

“Dad slightly tense about me driving but relieved that it beeps everytime near an obstacle! Now just have to find a name for it?! Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday xxx.”

It wasn’t long before fans rushed to the comments section of the post to suggest Kate honour her late husband by naming the car after him. One person wrote: “You should call the car Derek as he would have loved it , &hope you & Darcey & Billy & rest of the family have a brilliant chilled relaxed holiday you all deserve x.”

“Hope you all have an amazing time together OK so name for Volvo so as you have already said Derek would have approved and like it there you go name it after Derekxx,” another fan agreed.

A third echoed: “Have a fabulous time, call the car after Derek x,” while a fourth social media user suggested: “If you had a nick name for Derek that might be a good one.”

“A name with Derek in mind would be nice,” a fifth fan of the ITV star commented.

Kate gave fans a video tour of her new car featuring her dad, who could be seen standing beside the boot.

Narrating the clip, Kate said: “So, first trip to Cornwall, our annual family trip with mum and dad and about 30 other Garraways - beware Cornwall!

“It’s the first time I’ve done it in my lovely new Volvo - so excited! We’ve got four suitcases and quite a lot of extra food, because they don’t sell food in Cornwall,” she joked.

The grinning presenter added: “So it’s important that we take it with us, and we’ve got a cool box for lots of things for the fridge that my mum likes to take, a little bit of alcohol, and lots of art stuff that my mum likes to do with the nieces, nephews, and the little ones.

“So I’m good to go! I can still see over the back and, gosh, I forgot - three surfboards as well - brilliant!”
