Question Time: Piers Morgan accuses Nigel Farage of 'bottling it'

Piers Morgan and Nigel Farage came to blows on Thursday night’s BBC Question Time with the furious clash culminating in Piers telling the Reform UK president he had “bottled it” ahead of July’s general election.

The row got so heated that host Fiona Bruce had to hold out her hands to tell the men to stop arguing.

After the debate aired, Piers, 59, shared a photograph from behind the scenes enjoying drinks with host Fiona Bruce and panellists Damian Hinds, Wes Streeting and Rt Rev’d Rose Hudson-Wilkin. Nigel, 60, was noticeably missing from the photograph.

Not missing an opportunity to take a swipe at the former UKIP leader, he wrote: “All smiles after last night’s lively @bbcquestiontime – mainly because The Toad [frog emoji] had already left.”

The post divided Piers’s 8.7 million X followers, with many accusing him of being “immature” and urging him to “grow up”.

One said: “You’re absolutely rattled by him! He’s got you on strings.”

Another wrote: “Letting yourself down. Thought you were a bit better than silly name calling.”

A third fumed: “Your behaviour was very immature towards Nigel,” and a fourth echoed: “Grow up.”

A fifth tweeted: “I’m sure you would have thrown Nigel under the bus like he did you with Trump given the opportunity. Don’t be bitter Piers be better.”

Piers and Nigel’s feud began when the Uncensored host accused the I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! star of trying to sabotage his 2022 interview with Donald Trump.

Piers claimed Nigel sent a dossier to the former president with a list of unpleasant things the journalist had said about him over the years.

Nigel explained at the time: “I said to [Trump] 'Morgan has gone around boasting in the UK media telling everybody that he is your friend, that he has got special privileged access, but in fact, behind your back, he has been stitching you up for a long time. If you do this interview, here is the truth,' and I gave him a document."

Who are the BBC's highest-paid stars?

The BBC publishes the salaries of its highest earners every year in its annual report.

The top five in 2021-22 were:

1. Gary Lineker - £1,350,000

2. Zoe Ball - £980,000

3. Alan Shearer - £450,000

4. Steve Wright - £450,000

5. Stephen Nolan - £415,000

Some viewers did praise Piers after his appearance on Question Time. One wrote: “I have to say Piers, you were pretty great especially when you mentioned Farage essentially abandoning the UK to run to America to help Trump rather than standing for election himself in his own country.”

Another said: “To be honest definitely the worst of the night was not in that picture. However, I'm torn sometimes I like and agree with your opinions and sometimes I don't agree. Last night I'd say 60 percent agree, but please don't get carried away!”

And a third echoed: “I don't normally agree with you. But surprisingly, you made several intelligent comments.”

Question Time airs Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One.
