Catherine the Great: Helen Mirren stars in HBO drama series
Helen Mirren is an Academy Award winning actress, known for her roles in The Queen and Prime Suspect. Her acting career, both on stage and in film, has spanned many decades, and she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to drama in 2003. And away from her acting life, Helen Mirren is married to a famous Hollywood director, who is thought to have changed the actress’ outlook on marriage completely.
Dame Helen Mirren, 74, has been married to Taylor Hackford, a film director, since 1997.
Taylor is perhaps best known for directing Hollywood classics such as Ray and An Officer and a Gentleman.
The pair first crossed paths while Taylor was directing Helen in White Nights in 1985.
The pair married 12 years after meeting, despite the fact that Helen had previously indicated she didn’t want to get married.

In an interview with AARP in 2016, Helen spoke about her change of heart: “It’s very hard to unpick your choices, and a lot of it was luck.
“But a lot of it was choice, absolutely.
“So yes, I did very consciously choose my work over my relationships right up to the time that I met Taylor.
“I was 38 when I met Taylor, pretty late in life.”
The actress added: “We got married in the end because we realized that we were going to be together forever.
“We got married, ultimately, for legal reasons more than anything else.
“Estate planning and other complicated things like that.
“And our families, we sensed, wanted us to be married.
