AJ Pritchard’s mum reveals ‘heartache’ over Curtis Pritchard’s split with Amy Hart
AJ PRITCHARD’S mum Debi admitted she is hoping to console Amy Hart after her son Curtis Pritchard broke her heart on Love Island 2019.
Love Island: Curtis’ mum appears emotional on This Morning
AJ Pritchard’s, 24, mum Debi revealed she would like to “reach out” to Amy Hart, 27, after her son Curtis Pritchard, 23, devastatingly dumped her on Love Island 2019. The matriarch opened up about her “heartache” over the former couple’s split when she watched their dramatic break-up play out on the ITV2 show. She admitted: “I would like to meet Amy. My heartache is there for Amy and for the parents. “When I watched the moment when Curtis told her how he felt, I couldn’t stop crying because of all the emotion.
“I wanted to reach out and give Amy a hug.”
Debi continued to The Mirror: “I was thinking of Amy’s mum a lot and I’m so happy Amy is with her family unit now because I know she will be fine and her and Curtis will be friends.”
In spite of her feelings of sympathy towards the heartbroken air hostess, the professional dancer’s mum insisted she was “not ashamed” of her son’s actions.
She explained: “I was absolutely not ashamed of Curtis.
“It takes a very big person to end something in a very honest way.”
The mum-of-two burst into tears on the ITV daytime show after she watched a highlights reel featuring Curtis and Amy’s relationship woes.
Phillip Schofield, 57, handed her a tissue as she revealed the moment was “so emotional” to watch.
Debi explained: “To feel Curtis’ pain and not even to realise the pain that Amy’s going through and Amy's parents, it’s so traumatic.”
While placing her hand on her chest, her voice cracked as she said: “My heart’s going like this.”
Later in the interview, Debi explained the dancer was initially asked to take part in a different dating show.
She told Holly Willoughby, 38, and Phillip: “Curtis rang me one day and said, ‘A researcher has rang me and they’ve asked me to do this dating programme’.”
Debi then decided to call AJ and ask his advice on the matter, recalling how he suggested: “‘No, if he’s going to do a dating programme, he has to go big. Do Love Island.’”
AJ also opened up about Curtis’ split with his former half-girlfriend, as he spoke out about his brother’s “brutally honest” behaviour.
He said: “I think Curtis is Curtis. He is so honest, sometimes a little bit too brutally honest, the way he let her down.
“The thing is he was on holiday, getting sunburnt, eating too much and everything’s done for him.
“So, it’s that kind of holiday romance.”
Love Island continues tomorrow on ITV2 at 9pm.
