Dan Walker reveals inside of women's FA Cup trophy
BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, 41, joked about a banana he had stored inside the trophy, which will be given to this year’s Women’s FA Cup winner in May. The broadcaster held the trophy while sat alongside his co-star Louise Minchin, 50, who took off the lid to unveil the piece of fruit. In view of his 68,000 followers, he could be heard saying: “Ok, the winning FA Cup, Louise Minchin please unveil what is in the trophy?” Louise lifted the lid with Dan zooming in on the banana inside.
He then turned the camera onto his co-star who jokingly claimed: “It’s mine!”
Dan added: “It’s a banana in there. We will be doing the draw in a moment. Goodbye.”
Many of his fans flocked to his page to comment on the amusing clip.
One user wrote: “Love you two on the sofa such joy in the morning.”
A second commented: “You two are really funny together.”
During the show today, Sports reporter Sally Nugent, 47, brought up Louise’s upcoming role of drawing out the balls for the Women’s FA Cup Semi Finals.
Dan, who also hosts Football Focus, informed Louise she could be accused of hiding balls up the sleeves of her outfit.
Speaking of Louise’s role, Sally enthused: “We are doing the draw for the Women’s FA Cup Semi Finals.”
She then said to Louise: “Don’t forget we’re doing it because you are playing a big part!”
Dan then informed Louise about a “golden rule” telling her: “This is only four balls and remember the golden rules, you cannot even look in the bag.”
The host then described the method as “like when you take Scrabble tiles out of the bag.”
Louise, who was wearing a smart green dress, added: “Very good, I also might fold my sleeves up in case anybody thinks there’s some hidden up the sleeves.”
Dan added: “Actually that’s a really bad outfit to be wearing, because you’ll be accused of ball tampering.”
Despite some giggles during the task, Sally and Louise revealed the teams playing against each other in the semi finals, adding: “We’ve got Reading v West Ham, and Manchester City v Chelsea.”
The semi-final rounds will take place next month.
The winning teams will compete for the trophy on Saturday 4 May from 5.30pm on BBC One.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
