The legendary Italian star received the Grand Acting Award from the Dutch Minister of Culture Ingrid van Engulshoven at the Films by the Sea Festival.
The annual event, which began in 1999, takes place every September in Vlissingen in the Netherlands.
Each year one person from the film industry is honoured with the award for outstanding accomplishments in the movie world.
The star of Two Women, Houseboat and The Pride and the Passion, was this year’s recipient.
Previous winners have included American actor Morgan Freeman and English actor Sir Ben Kingsley.
Sophia looked as beautiful as ever when presented with the award to a loud round of applause at the Cine City cinema.
She appeared radiant in a shimmery black gown with pink flower detailing that ran across the front of her dress from her shoulder to her hip.
The screen legend teamed the look with a pair of diamond drop earrings and a gold and diamond necklace.
