Beautiful Riviera far from the heatwave that welcomes UK tourists
EXCLUSIVE: While southern Europe bakes under scorching temperatures, the northern part of the continent has much to offer.
Some of the holiday destinations most adored by British tourists have been experiencing scorching and long-lasting heatwaves.
Temperatures in several areas of France, Italy, Greece and Spain have been in the mid-30sC over the past several weeks and went even beyond 40C in some cities and towns.
Similar weather conditions have prompted authorities to issue health warnings, urging holidaymakers and locals alike to be mindful of the heat when going outside.
But tourists who want to spend some time at the seaside but can't bear the thought of facing extremely hot temperatures can swap Spain or Italy with the Danish Riviera, experts have noted.
Nausheen Farishta, a travel expert and founder of Globe Gazers, told Express.co.uk: "With the big heatwave hitting many popular European places, British travellers might look elsewhere to enjoy the beach without the intense heat. In those cases, they were swapping sunny Spain for cooler Northern Europe."
Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the Bavarian Alps are good alternatives, Ms Farishta said. But a perfect holiday destination for people who want to head to the coast while also sightseeing a city is Denmark.
She said: "If you want to explore cities and the coast, Copenhagen, Denmark should be on your list. This vibrant place embraces hygge lifestyle, offering canal rides, hot tubs and culture mixed with mild weather. Trains reach it easily from London, Paris, and Berlin for a green trip without flying."
She added: "In conclusion, Northern Europe has many great destinations that offer cool weather, rich culture, and landscapes. Don't let the heat stop you from exploring places from Amsterdam to Chamonix and their varying climates."

Another travel expert who believes Denmark is a great alternative to the hotter southern Europe is Fiona Spinks.
The founder of Following Fiona told Express.co.uk: "Here's one that might surprise you - Denmark's Riviera region isn't just mean pastries and bikes, folks. Just north of Copenhagen, you've got this gorgeous stretch of sandy beaches and coastal towns that make for an unexpectedly awesome beach getaway."
Among the best areas to go to, Ms Spinks said, are "North Zealand and the island of Bornholm", which she described as "local favourites" thanks to their "family-friendly shores, chill vibes, and refreshingly mild summer temps".
