The beautiful village named one of the prettiest in the Peak District

Tideswell is located in the heart of the Peak District National Park and this quaint little village is a perfect place to stop off if you’re in the area.

Tideswell is famous for annual well dressings and the 14th century St. John the Baptist, widely regarded as the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’. The village is a great alternative to nearby Buxton for a short walking break.

The Cathedral of the Peak is a historic, grade one listed building within the village. The site has a recorded history of almost a thousand years with the current building approximately six hundred and thirty years old. The church towers over the small village making it a prominent place to visit in the area. One visitor said: “It was a beautiful church. A lovely place to go and reflect. We walked around the grounds as well as inside. It was very calming.”

There are an abundance of walks in the Peaks close by, such as Miller’s Dale. This walk begins with a riverside amble beside the Wye and ascends to White peak upland where incredible views of the landscape can be seen.

The route then goes down to Pennine Bridleway and finishes with a stretch of easy walking along part of the famous Monsal Trail.

Another route worth taking through the nearby village of Ashford-in-the-Water which is only six miles from Tideswell. This classic Peak District walk begins with navigating a lit tunnel which adds a more adventurous feel to the start of your walk.

Enjoy the views as you walk by the River Wye and end your journey at Monsal Head.

"It's quaint, lovely, delicious and very pleasant! For food, we had scrambled egg and avocado on toast, orange juice and a pot of tea. It was brilliant, the best avocado on toast I've ever eaten and lovely tea. I highly recommend and will be returning - it is full of character.”
