With the UEFA Euro 2024 set to kick off across 10 cities in Germany, popular areas for holidays in the country such as Berlin and Munich are set to get incredibly busy.

However, tourists are able to see their favourite team play whilst still having a peaceful break in Germany by travelling to one of the lesser-known towns.

Arguably one of the best compromises when visiting Germany during the Euros is the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.

Whilst the small town has a population of under 74,000, Brandenburg an der Havel is near a number of main roads, meaning tourists staying there can reach the Berlin Olympic Stadium, where many matches are being held, in under an hour.

However, in addition to being incredibly well connected to nearby cities, the small German town has plenty of attractions to suit all kinds of tourists.

One of the most popular things to do on a visit to Brandenburg an der Havel is to visit the old town, which features a wide range of beautiful historic buildings.

With a history spanning around 1,000 years, Brandenburg's old town offers a lot for tourists, including the Altstädtisches Rathaus town hall and the St Paul's Monastery.

Some companies also offer scavenger hunts through this part of the town, in which visitors try to find and take photos of various landmarks in the area in the fastest possible time.

Tourists looking to find some fresh air and stretch their legs during a stay in Brandenburg an der Havel should also think about visiting the Bürgerpark Marienberg.

The largest green space in the town, this 30-acre park is probably best known for featuring Friedenswarte observation tower which gives visitors a great view of the surrounding area.

Tourists can also get some good photos from other attractions within the park, including the Shell Grotto, a shrub garden and an open-air stage.

Finally, one of the more distinctive attractions in the city is the Industriemuseum Brandenburg an der Havel, a museum that celebrates the products made in the area.

Based inside a former factory, the museum includes a 180-tonne smelting furnace that was used to produce steel, various forms of heavy machinery and a collection of locally-produced cars.

The museum also shows visitors what working conditions were like in factories over the years, featuring a recreation of a traditional canteen.
