Germany's charming hidden gem town features over 1,300 half-timbered houses and a castle
Located around an hour and a half away from Leipzig, the town of Quedlinburg in Germany offers centuries of history, walkable streets and beautiful countryside.
Germany has plenty of popular attractions that help to make it the eighth-most-visited country in the world, with 183.3 million tourists staying in the country during 2023.
Whilst that may make large cities, such as the capital Berlin, crowded, tourists who head to the peaceful town of Quedlinburg can enjoy a relaxing break.
A spokesperson for the holiday booking company Great Rail Journeys noted that Quedlinburg offers visitors an incredibly rich history and had plenty of events throughout the year.
They explained: "Quedlinburg is a historic town located in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. This fascinating city features over 1,300 half-timbered houses spanning six centuries, a Romanesque-style collegiate church, and a castle.
"Quedlinburg attracts visitors with its charming old town, historical landmarks, and cultural festivals - ideal for tourists seeking an adventure."
When visiting Quedlinburg, many tourists will take a trip to the Altstadt, or Old Town, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage List site since 1994.
The area is most notable for its narrow, cobbled streets and wooden structures, which lead up to larger attractions, including a vine-covered town hall and 11th century church.
Quedlinburg's Altstadt also features a great range of independent shops and cafes, making it the perfect location to find a souvenir and have a snack.

Another popular attraction in Quedlinburg is the Schlossmuseum, which tells the history of the castle that has been a part of the town for over 1,000 years.
Located in the middle of the town on a 25-metre-high platform, Quedlinburg Castle was originally inhabited by King Heinrich I and still features many of his belongings.
The Schlossmuseum also details how the castle was used by the Nazi Party for propaganda purposes during the build up to the Second World War.
Finally, tourists looking to spend some time in the fresh air should head to Mathildengarten, a large garden that features a wide range of different plants and flowers.
Commissioned in the 18th century by Friedrich II, the monarch of Prussia, Mathildengarten features four raised platforms to give visitors a good view of the central pool, along with a number of garden houses, decorated with tapestries.
Today, tourists who visit Mathildengarten enjoy taking a stroll from terrace to terrace, taking in the various flowers and spotting wildlife in the park.
