The cheapest capital city for British expats in Europe is a sunny destination
One of Europe's best-value cities for British expats is an incredible destination in Greece.
Ever dreamed of moving abroad? According to a new study, a Greek city is one of the cheapest destinations for British expats looking to relocate.
The team at Greenback Expat Tax Services found that Athens was the cheapest European capital for British expats.
They estimated it would cost an individual $1,674 (£1,301) per month to live in Athens as an expat.
The capital of Greece and the heart of the Ancient Greek Empire, Athens is one of Europe’s most impressive cities.
Around 6.4 million tourists visit Athens every year, the majority travelling to see the Acropolis and other ancient wonders.
Athens’ climate is one of the reasons it’s attractive to Britons. The city enjoys mild winter temperatures and hot summers.
It’s also a great place for expats to base themselves if they want to get out and explore Greece’s islands.
So where do expats live in Athens?

The expat experts at InterNations said: “Areas favoured by expats living in Athens include central parts such as Kolonaki, Plaka and Thission and the suburban areas of Kifisia and Glyfada.
“Many businesses are based in the city centre, and there is also a financial district in the suburb of Marousi. The attractive Riviera area is also popular because of its lovely sandy beaches and stylish restaurants.”
Plaka has a village-like feel despite its position in the centre of the city, but expats may find it’s too busy with tourists.
Kifisia is an upmarket suburban area with fashionable boutiques and plenty of restaurants, making it a great choice for expats who want some buzz without being in the centre of the city.
