The Italian city without busy tourists like Rome or Milan and 'luxurious' historical site

Particularly if you're after sun, sea and stunning scenery. This location is only a two-hour flight from the UK capital so there's no need to travel far.

So, where is the place? It's Rimini in Italy which is located on the Adriatic coast and is in the country's Emilia-Romagna region.

Most people flock to Venice, Rome, Milan or Florence when you think of Italy and we can see why, however, what about a smaller city that offers fewer tourists but which is just as beautiful?

Let's take a look at what there is to do in the city and why it remains a hidden gem.

Where is Rimini?

The renowned seaside resort has long been a favoured vacation spot for travellers. It is known for its sandy beaches and vibrant beach culture.

Once hailed as the quintessential summer destination, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s.

However, that doesn't stop travellers from going there thanks to its beachside nightclubs and plenty of great food.

Things to do in Rimini?

There are plenty of things to see and do in the city with something for everyone of all ages.

If you're after history then head to the 15th-century Malatestiano Temple. Located just south of the centre, it is now a mausoleum for Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, a local nobleman.

The cathedral has a 4.6 Google rating online, with one traveller writing, "a beautiful catholic church, previously a Pagan temple".

Another commented: "I was impressed by the interior of this temple since it has so many wonderful marble sculptures which makes it look quite elegant and luxurious."

A third said: "This cathedral is the masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. Tempio Malatestiano is a beautiful one-nave church built by Leon Battista Alberti in 1450, by order Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta."

Another highly rated tourist attraction is the Tiberius Bridge which is also known as Ponte d'Augusto e Tiberio.

The bridge itself is located not far from the main square and has stunning views of the city. According to TripAdvisor, it has a 4.5 rating with one person writing: "We found the area full of life a great place for the famous selfie with the famous bridge in the background.

"The area is also a good place for restaurants with many down the beautiful side streets."

Another added: "Really nice historical bridge to see, located only about 5 minutes from city centre and easy to get to.

"Bridge isn’t big, but visually very nice to see with the surrounding lake and park area.

"I was lucky to go on a nice sunny day and the bridge and area had a really good atmosphere, a very photogenic bridge."

A third said: "Interesting to see such an old bridge that is still being used even today. So worth a small detour to see it."

How to get to Rimini?

London is the only direct flight which flies to the city. In particular, London Stansted and Luton Airport both fly there with budget airlines Wizz Air and Ryanair.

The flight time takes two hours and 15 minutes perfect for a weekend getaway or more. Of course, you can fly from other airports around the UK but you will have to catch a flight to London and go from there.

Meanwhile, if you're happy to catch a train from another Italian city then this is a great and affordable way to get around the country.

You can fly into Bologna and get the train down to Rimini which takes around one hour and 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, you can also fly to Ancona and get the train north to the city with the journey taking slightly longer at two hours and 30 minutes.
