Europe’s ‘extraordinary’ hidden gem that not many British tourists know about
A gorgeous town in Austria is one of the continent's best hidden gems that not many Britons know about.
Looking for a hidden holiday gem? A travel expert has shared one of their favourite lesser-known spots with Express.co.uk.
Veronica Diquattro, Omio’s Europe president and travel expert, told Express.co.uk about Bad Ischl, a little-known European town.
She said: “Even though it was named European Culture Capital 2024 by the European Commission, not many people know about Bad Ischl, the imperial hidden gem in Austria.
“It is an extraordinary town, filled with wonderful Wilhelmine architecture, a variety of hiking trails and a rich history.
“In winter, in addition to the cross-country ski run on the RettenbachAlm, you can also immerse in the ski touring on the Katrin Alm.
“For music superfans, you can get to Bad Ischl in September for the magic of ABBA at Congress & Theater House. Take a chance on this beautiful town and lay all your love on it.”
Bad Ischl is about an hour’s drive from Salzburg or it’s under two hours by train. The spa town was the favoured summer holiday destination of Emperor Franz Joseph.
Take the town’s Katrin Cable Car for incredible views or explore the Kaiser villa to learn more about Austrian history.
